Structure formation and conductive properties of epoxy/in situ polymerized methacrylate polymer/silver filler composites

The structure formation and electrical conductivity of poly[diglycidyl ethers bisphenol-F (DGEBF)]/poly[dicyclopentenyloxyethyl methacrylate (DPOMA)]/silver (Ag) filler composites were investigated. DGEBF/40 wt% DPOMA blends showed low viscosity formed co-continuous phase structures at the micrometer scale via in situ radical polymerization followed by anionic DGEBF. Scanning electron microscopy nano-infrared spectroscopy revealed that Ag fillers, surface-treated with myristic acid, selectively localized polymer-rich phases. Consequently, fillers present self-assembled narrow area, which a conductive channel. DGEBF/DPOMA/Ag thus achieved reduction 30% compared to DGEBF/Ag composites. mechanism for selective placement was clarified terms affinity among epoxy-rich phase, measurement their Hansen solubility parameters (HSPs).
